IoT – Resolving Billing Issues for Medical Devices

Challenge

This leading medical device manufacturer had an issue with the legacy billing practices for a widely used piece of equipment called a wound pump. Legacy invoicing practices relied on manual entry by nurses about the length and location of device usage.

Solution

TeraCode developed a solution that tracks the device location in real-time at a hyper-local level. This connects to a cloud-based dashboard for auto device usage tracking.

Technology

Dashboard in AWS, mobile applications in iOS and Android, and a communication card on the device that leverages WiFi & BLE for activation and tracking capabilities.

Outcome

Results are improved patient usage, reduced equipment loss and new billing modality. Wound pumps are now tracked to within feet, which supports the new pay-per-use model. This makes adoption easier and more profitable.
