IoT – Improving Shipping Cybersecurity

Challenge

A mid-sized maritime logistics company needed help complying with IMO regulations on cybersecurity which required 24/7 visibility of vessels’ onboard server racks to mitigate any unauthorized access.

Solution

We developed a LoRaWAN, 2.4GHZ enabled camera that takes pictures of server cabinet opening. Information is collected in TeraCode’s data visualization platform (AppThing), and integrates into the procedures for alerts/notifications.

Technology

A camera is deployed within the server rack to capture the image. This data is communicated onboard and transmitted to shore using a satellite or a cell connection.

Outcome

By using this technology, the crew and shore staff obtain real time alerts of any unauthorized access to IT systems via the server rack. This protects the global supply chain upon which we all depend.
