IoT – Connecting PLC Products to the Cloud

Challenge

The global supplier of process automation equipment wanted to connect all their PLC based product lines to the cloud using the same gateway device.

Solution

TeraCode built a proof of concept by connecting its AppThing IoT platform to an eWon Flexy gateway device that could work with all PLC based products.

Technology

The eWon Flexy is a generic configurable device with standard UI and firmware that collects PLC data for uplink to the cloud. TeraCode’s solution used Java and WiFi/Ethernet/Cellular technology.

Outcome

This has reduced the cost of connecting different PLC-enabled product lines. AppThing allowed for easy data collection and highly customizable insights, statistics, & visualizations. New instances can spin up in minutes.
